How it is calculated

  • Value of a move = price move × lots × contract size ÷ exchange rate

Worked example

1.00 lot of 100 oz in a USD account: a 0.01 move is worth 0.01 × 1 × 100 = 1.00, a 0.10 move 10.00 and a 1.00 move 100.00. At 0.10 lots each figure is ten times smaller. In a GBP account at GBP/USD 1.25, a 1.00 move on 0.10 lots is 10 USD = 8.00 GBP.

Things to know

  • “Pip” has no single meaning for gold. Gold is usually quoted to two decimals, so the smallest step is 0.01 (often called a point); many platforms call 0.10 a pip, and some use 0.01 or 1.00. This calculator shows all three so you can match your platform.
  • Contract size, lot step, margin rates and quoting conventions vary between providers and account types. The defaults here are common examples; check your provider’s contract specification and use its figures.
Risk warning

Education only, not investment advice; leveraged trading carries a high risk of losing money. The calculator does arithmetic on the numbers you enter. It does not say whether or how to trade, and results are approximate.
